1. i can no longer tell which tribes have new messages posted without drilling down to a whole separate page
2. once i get to that page, there is no longer a tier structure of which tribes have the most new posts being at the top, with those with no new posts alphabetized towards the bottom. now they are all straight up alphabetized.
3. there are no longer thumbnails of users in the listings section. before i could recognize a friend in a glance and hop right to their listing.
4. the thumbnails have been cropped "to save room for content" resulting in my photo and my friends photos looking completely screwy.
5. the separate content fields are not visually "called out" well enough, they blend together as one lump of text and links.
can you tell i have worked successfully as a ui designer? ;)

You know what is funny, they thanked us for our input, but yet this design doesn't really look any different than they showed us. So, why did they thank us? -

Fri, March 26, 2004 - 2:14 PMI really didn't intend for this tribe to be a lightning rod for vicious dissent. Instead, I was looking for a way to signify to the PTB that, given the body of users and their passion for tribe.net, not to mention the huge amount of experience that some of us have, we might have been a good soundng board in the aggregate for changes in structure or theme.
I haven't even begun to calculate what it is that I don't like about it, but the initial distaste was so strong that I came looking for my tribes, and this one especially. That it took me longer than normal wasn't simply a matter of the new UI's difference, but the UI's appearance, as well.
It's too plain, too monochromatic, and yes, I know that they're trying to save on bandwidth and server volume by depending upon CSS and image redundancies as much as possible. They seem to want it to be laid back and hip in a steel-toned, brushed-surface way, but the lack of contrast makes it so that it's just too danged hard on the eyes and unintuitive.
That's my $.02 on the appearance. I'm sure someone else has more to chip in *cough* on the color scheme and the structure.
Dang, I'm just _bummed out_. -

Fri, March 26, 2004 - 2:57 PMTough to look at and user-unfriendly, yes. But no matter what computer I view it on, the tables, forms and everything else overlap each other and spread over the screen haphazerdly. Did they not test this in multiple browsers/OS's?
I hate it, and worry that new people who have joined Tribe to participate in my tribes will lose interest. -

i hope you didn't take my list of "issues" as vicious dissent -- they certainly weren't intended that way. i wanted to post them because i am hoping that at some point the powers that be will examine this tribe and see constructive criticism. i'm not just bitching for the sake of bitching!!
i totally agree with your comments as well. the color scheme too *ahem* -- it reminds me a failed dot bomb i used to work for. anyone even heard of productopia?? -

There wasn't anything vicious in what you had to say, quite to the contrary, although I'm not as sanguine as you are that they're open to constructive criticism.
