I'm recommending that the members of this tribe join another, People for a Better Tribe.net (thisredesignsucks.tribe.net).
There's no point in letting my lack of popularity and credibility with a certain crowd affect the ability of tribe.net members to make a show of united solidarity in speaking out about the shortcomings of the changes in tribe.net's color scheme and structure. As two groups we lack stature. As one group, the combined numbers would be much more noticeable, and networking and invitations would increase its size geometrically.
It was suggested on People for a Better Tribe.net that they merge with us (www.tribe.net/tribe/servl...iewThread.vm but it was immediately shot down. It's kind of funny, since I was derided by certain folks for having started this tribe in the first place.
So please, since they won't come over here, go on over there, and make some really big numbers. I was happy to be an early catalyst, and I thank you who have joined up for showing your concern for tribe.net. It has a lot of potential, despite a few bugs and other assorted issues.

I didn't go into details, because I didn't feel that it was necessary. Now that you've poked a stick at me, I guess something needs to be said. Suffice it to say that there was a disagreement between people of different generations and lifestyles/outlooks, and mob mentality took over. Observations of the possibility of grossly unprofessional behavior on the part of a tribe moderator were made, and it was reported to the appropriate people. Whether or not I stepped on toes is besides the point. The profession in question demands 110% of its practitioners, and there can be no slack from bell to bell. The tribe in question has gone private and taken the bulk of the evidence of abuse with it. I'm not sure how you have the guts to say the things that you've said, like calling me a fucktard and threatening to find me and start a fight, and then turn around and come in here and label me as passive-aggressive, but I do have to say that you're absolutely fucking amazing.
I have no intentions of associating with you, but I was the one who made a somewhat selfless decision and suggested that the people here join up with your group if they hadn't done so yet. That you couldn't just take that at face value without having to troll says everythnig about you that needs to be said.
I'd rather be right than cool for the wrong reasons any day of the week. -

Sat, March 27, 2004 - 11:32 AMLet's see how long you'll let me speak me mind before you cowardly zap me away.
One, you are the embodiment of everything you gripe and whine about, Chip. Let's look at this for a moment:
You are a hypocrite.
First, you get all bent out of shape about jokes about Cubans loving knives on a tribe that is so obviously tongue in cheek a moron would detect it. Then, you turn around and suggest that you hope I run into a Cuban because they'll stab me. Huh?Next, you whine about people calling you on it, and then accuse people of "long distance bravery," as if this isn't YOUR method. All bluster, no content.
Who are you to be the judge and jury of what people are allowed to say? Who are you to judge what a teacher should or shouldn't be? You claim to have taught. Why don't you now?
Let it be said here that Chip has threatened me, claiming to have contacted my employer and the newspapers about what he calls my "antics." What a model of dignity and restraint.
And by the way Chip, my phone's really been clogged with all the newspaper reporters fighting to jump on this story. "Humorless Hump Offended on Internet." Should be on the cover of Time next week.

Sat, March 27, 2004 - 5:39 PMYou wanna talk shit?
Take Show & Tellâ„¢ public again and tell me that you haven't shit-canned the threads in which all the crap went down, and I mean ALL the threads.
You created a second tribe that duplicated the purpose of this one, and I suggested that it would be smart for people here to go there, simply because I knew down deep that you would start shit here. You haven't proven me wrong, have you?
This tribe exists because tribe.net was going in directions that made some of us a bit unhappy. It doesn't exist to give you a reason to come over here and play head-games with me.
If you're serious about your purpose, do your thing over on the other tribe and build up numbers and ideas so that the PTB take notice and perhaps something good comes out of it. Nothing, but nothing good can come of your presence here if this is what your participation consists of, and frankly, Thaddeus, as far as I'm concerned, you're only welcome as long as you choose to discuss ways to make tribe.net better as a whole. -

Re: Tribe members: please read this
Sat, March 27, 2004 - 6:34 PMFirstly, get in contact with Stephen Carter at The Oregonian and discuss it with him if you wish. You most likely are familiar with the people in your own district who handle HR issues.
Secondly, you made statements on Show & Tellâ„¢ , if even only half true, that indicated a less-than-professional demeanor:
-- purposefully sending your kids home on a sugar high as a kind of revenge against lax, unfit parents, and characterizing them in the most unkind of terms
-- trooping staff and faculty members into your class room to look at your university EDU-class field-experience students' breasts half out of her blouse, rather than requesting that a senior female teeacher or administrator assess the situation and take appropriate action
-- allowing a minor to ingest an unknown substance received from a pen-pal program, something that you assumed to be chocolate candy, and then having the child vomit it up
-- taking unfair advantage of your student teacher by "borrowing" commercial software from him, and apparently letting him solo ASAP so as to free you for your daily hijinks
-- making your entire class cry their hearts out by leading them into a carefully planned discussion of death that started as an examination of the bombing in Madrid, and then proceeded into an examination of the deaths that have affected
-- making steady and consistent use of your internet privileges from school in such a manner and way as to be completely outside the scope of any acceptable use policy that a school district would have in place, especially as concerns the nature of the sites that you have undoubtedly visited
As far as threats go, I suppose that this www.tribe.net/tribe/servl...iewThread.vm thread's beginning says nothing about beating the shit out of me, right? I know that you'll say that it was all PixelSlut $$$, but really, you guys are a vigilante flash mob, so what's the difference?
Teachers function in what is called "in loco parentiis," which is a Latin phrase that means "in the place of the parent." It's the basis for the accountability of teachers to both the parents of the children and their employers for the welfare and education of the students, and it's the reason that I called The Oregonian in the first place. I saw something that concerned me, and I responded as I should have. You see, I read your postings, I watched your interaction with others, and I noticed your consistent use of the 'net from work, even taking into account the fact that you were hosting a student teacher. And then I decided that I didn't think that I would have wanted you in my kids' classrooms in any capacity.
Am I holier than thou? No. I did my time in a shit-hole inner city high school, and I've seen the mud and the blood in the bottom of the trenches. The kids there were tough to impossible to deal with at best, and there were times that I just wanted to walk out.
You see, Thadd, not to be dramatic, but I wound up with congestive heart failure on the job. That's why I'm not there. I'm at home making some scratch as a translator and web localizer and trying to get my affairs in order, as my heart continues to turn into a big, ineffectually twitching lump of meat. You pestered me in a private message to know why I'm no longer OTJ, and now you know.
This is the last that I'll have to say about your issues. Teaching is about the kids. It's only about the kids, and that's who I was concerned for. So please, drop the drama here, and let it go. Not to sound too much like one of your hated hippies, but you need to decide if you're part of the problem, or part of the solution. -

Re: Tribe members: please read this
Sat, March 27, 2004 - 6:45 PMNow was that so hard?
That synopsis makes me sound a lot funnier than I am. I'm sorry your experience teaching wasn't a good one, but I'm still puzzled over your insistence on being judge and jury on anyone, especially someone who you have no idea whether they are fictionalizing anything or not. I'm as alarmed by your desire to paint inner-city kids as "impossible" as you are byt my antics. Pleanty of folks, me included, successfully teach low-income kids all the time. I guess it's something you either have a knack for or you don't.
As far as what you deem fit in the way of the student-teacher/mentor-teacher relationship, my student teacher is required by the Oregon TSPC to solo for nine weeks, unassisted. Oregon has the most stringent requirements in the nation, so your experience may have differed. Having already planned for the rest of this school year, and being free by contract to do as I wish with my time, I am indeed having some fun at work. It helps ease the stress of being separated from a class that I love working with, a class who is poised to kick some serious ass on the tests mandated by your fellow friendly conservative, GWB.
So anyway, thanks for finally answering what I feel to be a not unreasonable request, and for revealing the lengths with which you have followed my brief tribe career. -

Granted all im going from are the same hijinks and stories hes posted in SAT and the spirit of our internet friendship, but those to me say volumes about the mans character and ability in both his profession as a teacher and as a parent himself. I find it funnythat you perceived some rougue teacher harming our poor children from the exact same posts. The system needs more teachers like Thad. Mon, March 29, 2004 - 1:16 PMChippie, let me tell you that as the white trash mother of a child the age that Thad teaches, I would love it if she had a teacher like him.
Smart as she is, any teacher who had no sense of humor. Is she impossible to deal with? Yes, to some teachers who like the type of student who is compliant and into rote learning.
Now,if it makes you feel better, you can turn me in to children services or call the newspaper about what a bad mother I am, but my My life is about my kid, it's only about the kid.

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 12:39 PMDear Chip,
When you crossover into somebodys real life and thearten their place of business you cross a line from fiction to reality.Nothing on tribe is real.Just precieved ideas that are written by people behind screens with to much time on their hands.
You on the other are the kind of self-rightous asshole that makes me sick to my stomach. To call up Thad's place of buiness and talk to his admins is completly crossing the line. What the hell do you even know about Thad and the way he teaches his childern.Did you gleen all this from the posts you once read on the S&T tribe.Did it ever occur to you that it is half fiction half reality over there. It is like the saying goes if you do not like something then DO NOT READ IT.Nobody sat you down and forced you to read anything over there, and any wraith you got you brought upon yourself.
It seems to me you bite off more then you can chew and in typical cowardly fashion you ran to mommy and told on soembody because they seem to have a higher metal capicity then you.
Know that if my good friend loses his job over some completly un-heralded bullshit rap you put on him.I will make it a point to make sure everyone on tribe.net knows what a true coward you are and how you are one of the lowest forms of life not fit to be a true human being.

Re: Tribe members: please read this
Mon, March 29, 2004 - 1:10 PMDear Chip,
I'm new to tribe. Been here like oh I dunno...2 weeks or so?
On the second night after I joined I met Thad. Thad invited me to SAT. It took me all of about 35 seconds to realize that he and his "co-horts" over there, blow a lot of steam, talk a lot of trash and *oh my god* have a lot of fun. Now, it wouldn't have taken me that long except it was 3 in the morning and I was reading slow.
So I must ask..what *exactly* is your malfunction?
I've read like 300 threads about this entire Chip vs Thad thing and dude..you are a wanker of the finest order. And to call a newspaper and try to threaten someone's job? If that isn't the most pathetic display of cry baby bullshit I've ever witnessed, I have no idea what is.
Does that mean if I were to threaten you, you'd call the police and tell them a girl threatened to beat you up? Seriously.
As for his talk about the kids he teaches and shit. Dude I have a customer at work that I refer to as Satan. I have another one that is known (by every employee in the store who's ever met her) as the Black Widow. Does this make me a horrible nasty human being? Not fucking hardly.
As for the whole racial thing. I will never ever deny that there is racism and prejudice a plenty in this country. And for you to twist this into a racial thing, is doing a disservice to every person who has ever TRULY been the victim of a hate crime.
I don't know enough about Cubans to say whether you are a good one or a bad one, but I do know enough about humans to say that you are more closely related to a slug.
I sincerely hope you have not written a check larger than your ass can cash, because there are a LOT of people who would be willing to state publicly that Thad is not the shit disturber in this particular situation.

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 1:22 PMIf I were a coward, I would have merely observed what happened in Show & Tellâ„¢ and said nothing. If I were a coward, I would simply make this thread disappear.
But I am not.
You say that the things said in Show & Tellâ„¢ are half-fiction, half-true. If this is so, it still substantiates 50% of my concerns, which is way too much.
I'm really not concerned with how someone like you perceives me. If life were only a popularity contest and winning your admiration were all-important, I'd sooner walk into the sea and not turn back.
What I am concerned about is that people value coolness over safety and security in the schools, and fail to see that Thadd will be held blameless if there is nothing to the stories that were posted on Show & Tellâ„¢. If, however, as you suggested, these stories were 50% based in reality, then there is, perhaps, a matter for concern here.

So you trained educator. Are you trying to say Thad is not? And if so where do you base these ideas from?
And you are coward because you hide behind a screen on the net and make judgement calls that are not yours to make. How do you know everything he every posted is fake. You don't know. You just assumed.Your assumptions are what make you a coward of the highest degree."Long distance barvery" I scoff at the idea.I would no fear addressing you in public, but as that will not happen any time soon I am forced to communicate with you via post on tribe.I will not stand for ignorance ruining someone's life.As you are trying to do.
Also if you were such a "great" educator you would have recognized a dsylexic when you see one,Chip.Sorry about the spelling, but i do the best i can.i think the sentiment is still there. You know you are coward.I have to wonder why a 43 yr old man is alone and has nothing better to do than be bitter and try to ruin someone else's life.Of course, that answers my question of why you are alone. -

If an outside observer were to read the threads in question, the first concern that would arise in their minds would be: "if Chip cannot differentiate an analogy from a stereotype, how is it that he can turn that analogy around INTO a stereotype?" You, yourself, threatened someone with a "cuban's knife-wielding skills".
Sorry, chump, but you exposed yourself right there as being a joker. Absolutely nothing else you say can prove that any differently, and the allegations that you called up Thaddeus' place of employment are unbelievable. If you had a job you can be guaranteed that they would know all about you. Your integrity is worth as much as your heritage, that is to say, it is a little bit of Spanish mixed up with a whole lot of shit.

Re: Tribe members: please read this
Mon, March 29, 2004 - 1:42 PM"There's no point in letting my lack of popularity and credibility with a certain crowd affect the ability of tribe.net members to make a show of united solidarity in speaking out about the shortcomings of the changes in tribe.net's color scheme and structure."
You honestly don't see the passive agressiveness SCREAMING out of this paragraph? Man, I'm Chinese, I know passive agressive (it's the Preferred Method of Communication of Chinese moms everywhere), and this shit reeks of it.
It boggles my mind that you care enough about a Tribe dedicated to shit-talking and links to funny websites that you'd stalk and report the moderator to a newspaper and his school district. Face it, Chip, nobody likes you, we all think you're a smelly little prat of the first order, and it stings. That's why you're beating this dead horse when everyone was more than ready to let go of this WEEKS ago. -

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 1:49 PMAmen, sister.
Chip, what's your degree in?
I only have a lowly master's degree, and since I support an entire family on my income it'll take me a while to complete my "final" stretch on the way to my Phd, but I'm only about 20 credits short of my doctorate. -

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 2:01 PMHow dare you even jest at threatening someone's livelihood because you were bested in a battle of wits. You are the one who started shit chip. Thad tried to explain the offhand JOKE and you pushed the situation further. I'd also like to note that Chip was the one to delete certain SAT threads. In those same threads, not only did he threaten us by hoping we meet a "real" Cuban who will stab us, he directly asked me if I wanted to be stabbed when I made a comical remark about stabbing my eyes out in reference to the stupidity of the comments being made. SO, who's the one making threats huh?
You're an ass chip. Even Yanni is cooler than you... least he has a sense of humor and enough common sense to not get his ego bruised when he was ganged up on. -

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 2:15 PMeasy way out.
you seem to have admitted by that post that you have nothing to base any of your actions on. Thad has provided his credentials and gone way beyond what was needed to prove his validity in his profession. The people that witnessed the original argument have also spoken up as to what occured and all you do is choose not to respond?
for an "educator" you lack the ability to educate any of us as to why you felt the need to take your actions in the direction you did..I can only hope that the students you may have had don't end up being quick to judge, holier then thou, and passive aggressive like you -

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 2:21 PMi am neither amused nor angry. I *am* concerned that the distortion field that warps your reality has expanded to encompass the real world, and has become dangerous and reckless. absolute conviction on your part, chip, means nothing, as the facts outweigh your fantasies, and are indisputable evidence of an irresponsible sense of moral conviction. reel in your vigilante bluster, and take a look at what transpired. your imagined hurt and distress are ridiculous and petty, and you have no right to inflict damage into the lives of people that verbally joust with you in an online forum. no need to respond, we can all see the inescapable suffering that you have to live with by being chip.

Re: Tribe members: please read this
Mon, March 29, 2004 - 2:27 PMI didn't come trolling, and neither did many of the people here. We came to set the record straight so that St. Chip of the Everlasting Chorizo of Perpetual Succor wouldn't get to play martyr without having his bullshit called on. Let me recap the events for you, lest your furiously stylish memory has failed you:
1. PixelSlut makes one tiny comment about Cubans that was lost in a deluge of other posts on S&T, all of them raunchy and irreverent. His comment would very likely never have been remarked on or remembered in the heaping morass that is Show and Tell.
2. You get your panties in a twist and actually blow the whole thing out of proportion (and unintentionally create a new catchphrase) by creating an extremely humorless thread about PixelSlut's comment.
3. You call Loki an eggplant and deride his mental capabilities (and by the way, according to Merriam-Webster and Dictionary.com he spelled melungeon right, you asswipe). You make threatening comments about stabbings. Much comedy ensues as everybody points out what a sad sap hypocrite you are.
4. You delete the thread.
5. Your panties still tightly wadded and beginning to fester, you start bitching about something that would've blown over in a day in all kinds of forums not related to the initial conflict, including Recipe Exchange, Tribe Moderators and this here tribe.
6. You call the Oregonian and Thad's school district even though Thad a) didn't start the original fracas, and b) contributed only minimally to it.
So how does this not make you a bitch again?
Pleh. -

Mon, March 29, 2004 - 3:24 PMAnd another thing Chip.
if you were so concerend for the childern's welfare and not making this a personal attack,as you stated it was not.If you really such true compassion for the childern. Then why did you what for almost a month to contact anyone...hmm?
Why? Because you are not really concerned for the childern. You just have no other way to retort to any of us.You just found the most chcken-shit way to attack a person that you could and then did it.
You are an even bigger weasel than i had first thought. How do you sleep with yourself at night.
Also it was to realize finally that you are not even Cuban.Good call Chip.Way to pick and choose your battles.

Re: That Woman Kicks ASS
Tue, March 30, 2004 - 2:15 AM"4. You delete the thread. "
THIS was where the annoyance factor stepped up into high gear for me: I was quite pissed that I didn't get a chance to save that particular thread of Chip's, in which he IMMEDIATELY does what we claims to hate so much; I mean, in the VERY SECOND POST he put up, he started ragging on me, making uninformed raciallist statements, and insulted all sorts of other racial groups in the process.
Total hypocrisy isn't, by itself, all that big of a deal to me, but when it's coupled with ignorant ad-hominem attacks and general anti-social misanthropy I start to think "Hey - this guy doesn't deserve to live."
Not an attack nor a threat; "Hey - this guy doesn't deserve to live" is just an observation based on perception - not racial bias, nor prejudging Chip on the basis of an incredibly bad haircut - just the outcome of simple analysis. Some people aren't worth having on the planet. It's possible that there's a side to Chip none of us can fathom, as we all know how misleading internet communications can be; but I've always felt it better to let one's personal judgment err on the side of caution.
We don't need any *more* psychopathic conflict-obsessed passive-aggressors. We have more than enough.
